.: BODYFUEL CAFE TAUPO STREET RACE
Olympic medallist Westley Gough has taken line honours & the $1000 winner's cheque at the inaugural Bodyfuel Cafe Street Race on the eve of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge. The NZ pursuiter was too rapid for breakaway companion Gordon McCauley over the closing metres of the 45 minute elite criterium. The major break of the race comprised Gough, McCauley, Josh England & Justin Kerr. England paid the price for his efforts in taking the first 3 sprint primes in being dropped by a definitive attack from McCauley. Kerr was also a victim of the pace but stayed focused to take out 3rd place from the pursuing bunch. The fine conditions produced fast racing in front of a captivated crowd, most of whom had the next morning's exertions to look forward to. With great feedback from crowd & riders alike, race organiser Peter Ulmer declared the event a success with great potential for future editions.
